Why Did The Menendez Brothers Kill Their Father

If your parents just died, what is the first thing you would buy? The Menendez brothers killed their very wealthy parents, Jose and Mary Menendez. The brothers were Lyle Menendez, then 21, and his brother Erik Menendez, then 18. Authorities arrested the brothers in March 1990. They were arrested after their psychologist’s girlfriend went to police claiming Erik had confessed the murders to the psychologist during a session. Lyle had threatened the doctor’s life, thus voiding doctor-patient privilege. The evidence showed that the Menendez brothers were guilty of murdering their parents and felt no remorse. The Menendez brothers killed their parents out of hatred and the desire to get access to their father’s money. The boys were very spoiled, Jose and Mary never denied them anything they wanted. As teenagers, the brothers started to commit crimes of theft and got away with it. Jose and Kitty Menendez’ estate was worth around fourteen million dollars. Jose used money to shield and control his sons. The boys killed their parents to get the money in the estate that was left for them. They also wanted to get back at their father for sexualy abusing them as children. Erik finally told his therapist about the murder. When Lyle found out that the therapist knew, he threatened to kill the therapist. This was ultimately what really proved them guilty. If you just killed your parents, would you regret what you did? While Lyle and Erik put on a great show of grief for the police at the crime scene, the Mendez brothers over the top spending in the weeks right after their parents death caused the police to be very suspicious of them.
