In the end of second world war Japan was utterly destroyed. The nuclear attacks of 1945 in Nagasaki and Hiroshima left country devastated and by that time Japan was in a blank state. For the first time since beginning Japan was occupied by a foreign power. The occupation ended at 28 April 1952. During this period Japan was changed to a democratic state. The occupation was led by the American general Douglas MacArthur. The five-star general helped Japan to rebuild its state and eradicate militarism.

This constitution provides for a parliamentary system of government and guarantees certain fundamental rights. The post war or the peace constitution is quite different form previous constitution of Japan the Meiji Constitution of 1889. In Meiji constitution the emperor was a fundamental law of the former state. Also the constitution itself was mix between Constitutional and absolute monarchy based on Prussian and British models.
