The allies created a plan that they called “closing the ring” in order to win the war in Europe. In October of 1942, German and Italian troops occupying the African Mediterranean coast were attacked by British forces. Soon after, Anglo-American troops began attacking west Africa. This simultaneous assault was intended to weaken the german and italian forces in Africa. This was the first step in the plan of closing the ring.
