Why Did Steinbeck Write The Grapes Of Wrath

Steinbeck full name was John Ernst Steinbeck Jr, he was a male born in Salinas California on February 27, 1902 who died at age 66 on December 20, 1968 in New York City, New York. Steinbeck came from a Christian background and did believe in God and in the bible as well. His religious views and believes do shape his novel and we can see this through Casey who was a preacher and also used to deliver sermons at one point, yet he changes and decides to leave that life style behind and “explores” himself . Steinbeck did get and education, he studied at Stanford University, according to biography.com. Despite the fact that Steinbeck went to Stanford University he later dropped out without a degree but was still able to become a successful, writer. biography.com claims that had decided to become a writer at age fourteen and ever since he would write poems and stories and was determined to make his dream of being a writer a reality. Steinbeck himself worked as a manual labor before he became a successful writer. Working as a labor may have also played part and been a factor that influenced Steinbeck to write The Grapes of Wrath which demonstrates the working conditions that other labor workers had, in this novel in particular focusing on social economic issues and the life style …show more content…
This novel was not particularly written for just one person’s eyes but for the public in general. The audience intended was everyone, those who form part of a migrant, agriculture working families, for the rich who have the the poor oppressed, and also in a way intended as a historical piece that informs modern people the hardships and life experiences, life styles and conditions that the poor use to have and unfortunately these conditions are still faced today by some families.
