Gita, Pi’s mother is an empathetic and kind character who also had the same traits as Orange Juice. They are both very gentle and wouldn’t do anything to harm anyone. Pi’s mother is the one who taught Pi his innocence and protection.
The comfort and protection that Pi’s mother showed Pi helped him on the boat by protecting himself and Richard Parker. Pi learned how to fish from a survivor manual and fed himself and Richard Parker. Pi trained Richard Parker to protective himself from being eaten and killed and also to show dominance. Pi took good care of Richard Parker, just like Pi’s mother took good care of Pi.
Connecting with and caring for the animals helped Pi on the boat because he knew how to train Richard Parker. Pi didn’t show fear when he was training Richard Parker because Pi knew how to train him. He knows how to train them because of the time he spends at the zoo. This helped him survive because if he was clueless and afraid of Richard Parker, he possibly could’ve eaten and killed
