Oetzi was killed close to the Italian and Austrian border, but was found on the Italian side. This suggests that he was mistaken as a trespasser. Whether Oetzi was trespassing will remain unknown without other evidence. As previously stated, pollens prove that Oetzi had traveled up and down mountains before his death. He could have easily been chased up and down the mountains by his attackers. It is true that his copper bladed-ax was left behind, but his attackers might not have wanted to be identifiable.
