Why Did Oetzi Kill

Improved Essays
Without more evidence, this mystery will never be solved. There are multiple theories that could explain why Oetzi was killed, but we have no idea which one is actually true. One theory is that he died because he was part of a sacrificial killing. Another common theory is that he was killed because someone was trying to rob him. Lastly, another theory is that he died due to territorial differences. All of these theories have supporting evidence, but some have a more compelling argument than others. There are still a number of things we don’t know about the Iceman. Without these answers we may never know the truth. Why was the Iceman really murdered?

Oetzi was killed close to the Italian and Austrian border, but was found on the Italian side. This suggests that he was mistaken as a trespasser. Whether Oetzi was trespassing will remain unknown without other evidence. As previously stated, pollens prove that Oetzi had traveled up and down mountains before his death. He could have easily been chased up and down the mountains by his attackers. It is true that his copper bladed-ax was left behind, but his attackers might not have wanted to be identifiable. A copper ax would be too obvious for his killers to take. Being identifiable is something killers aren’t fond of. Nothing else valuable was left behind, meaning his attackers took anything else that was valuable to them or their tribe. His stomach contents revealed he ate a big meal two hours before his death. After thinking this through, it is easy to conclude that Oetzi had a big meal before traveling in the mountains due to the extreme weather conditions of the Alps. There were knife wounds in the process of healing when he was killed, showing us that he had previously fought using hand to hand combat. This evidence goes along with this theory very well. The Iceman could have come into contact with his attackers previously and been warned to stay away. When he did not, the attackers decided there was no other way to deal with him, than by death. Between both of these fights, the blood found from four individuals is accounted for. All the evidence strongly supports this

Jung's theory also says that often the hero becomes the sacrificial scapegoat for his people or country. The sacrificial scapegoat is defined as a hero who must die for the well being of his country, people, or for the sins of his people in order to save the land (Guerin 163). In addition Jung says that the death of the hero as a sacrificial scapegoat can often be attributed to the hero's hubris, or excessive pride in themselves and their accomplishments (Guerin 168). Oedipus is an archetypal hero because he follows the quest, and is later the sacrificial scapegoat. His quest is when he leaves his parents, who have raised him, Dorian Merope and Polybus, out of fear of the oracle.…

ODYSSEUS \ My main idea is that i think that being being an epic hero you need to have power, strength, discipline, and you have to be kindness. All this four things Odysseus have them. Odysseus is a kind person. He has a good discipline to stay on one situation or on one place until the end. He is also very mortal that can resist everything and gives all his effort.…

Oedipus the King written by Sophocles is one of the best known tragic plays to date. It executes fear, pity, shame, and humiliation. It makes it hard for the reader to consider him as a hero. When one thinks about the word tragic you think of something negative, evil, outcome very dim, something completely out of control. There are five characteristics of a tragic hero.…

Man will always have an innate desire to have what isn’t his. Discontent is a hopeless side effect to human nature, and unfortunately all men deal with it hundreds of instances within a lifetime. What people don’t realize, though, is they are given what they have for a reason. The creator of the universe purposely places things, people, and circumstances in everyone’s life when it is appropriate. When men chase after their own desires, it often results in some sort of consequence.…

It is not easy to determine if Oedipus deserves his fate even though it was unavoidable. However, considering everything that had befallen Oedipus he remained a good person down to the very end, and I believe that he did not deserve his fate. Oedipus suffered much; the majority was out of his control. The Herdsman could have intervened several times to keep Oedipus from his own fate.…
