Why Did Napoleon Lose His Empire

Decent Essays
On December 2nd of the year 1804, Napoleon crowned himself Emperor. He did this because France was at war with most of Europe, and he wanted to attempt to save his nation before it collapsed. In 1804 he established the French Empire and by 1807, his empire stretched from the River Elbe in the North, down through Italy in the South, and from the Pyrenees to the Dalmatian coast. In 1812, Napoleon encountered the first significant defeats of his military career. He suffered through a Russian invasion, and the lose of Spain to the Duke of Wellington in the Peninsula War.

On the island of Saint Helena, Napoleon, and a few followers, lived under house arrest. At 51 years old, in the year 1821, he died from what they thought was stomach cancer.

In my opinion, the more important area to control was inside the French Empire. He already controlled most of Europe, and if he didn't focus on what he already had, the people in the French Empire would angry that he was neglecting the people who stuck by his side. Also, if he had controlled more of Europe, he wouldn't be able to control his other countries. By 1812, the only parts of Europe not under his control were Britain, Portugal, Sweden, and the Ottoman Empire. Besides the French Empire he controlled many small, independent countries including Spain, the Grand Duchy of Warsaw, and multiple German Kingdoms in Middle Europe.…

I believe the largest reasons Rome fell was because of invasion of barbarians, lack of military funding, assassination, and weak emperors. One of the most critical reasons the Roman empire fell was because of the invasions of barbarians, like the Goths, Vandals, and the Huns.
