G as you can see Mr. Ewell lied for two reasons, one he was the lowest of the low, and second he wanted to be the town hero.
In this journal, I will be talking about why Mr. Ewell lied in court about Tom touching and disturbing the peace of his daughter Mayella Ewell. Similar to most people, Bob and Mayella want to better their station in life. How ever Bob is unwilling to put forth the effort to change their family’s lives and Mayella does not have the resources to change her own life. Although this was not the only reason Bob lied in court. Another reason is that he wanted to be known as the hero that saves Maycomb white women from a “dangerous” black man. Doing this, Bob wanted to see his family to be noticed for something good for once and not bad. Mr. Ewell thought defending his daughter by going to court should raise his family’s stature. Furthermore, all Bob wanted was to be noticed for something that was good to the community instead of everybody hearing how he was a mean father and drunk. Unfortunately, all of Ewell’s plans backfire. By the end of the trial, he and his daughter are proven liars, he has been publicly identified as a sexually and physically abusive father who fails to provide for his family,
