Why Did I Take Honors Or AP Classes

Decent Essays
During my years in high school, I didn't want to take any honors or AP classes because they were hard classes to pass. It was the same old excuses for not doing homework. I told myself that I have to push myself to the limit and take on a challenge. I only took 1 honors class in Freshman and Sophomore year. Junior year, I did not take on honors or AP classes, and in Senior year, I only took 1 AP class.
This classes helped me feel a little better of myself because i had to try my best. Giving all of my best in those classes were a challenge but fun as well. There has been 1 educational barrier I've faced. One of the problem was that I was to shy to ask a teacher for help. I was afraid that the teacher would get mad and call me stupid for a question

WHY I WANT TO JOIN THE HONORS PROGRAM Alighting from a Boeing 747 jetliner on the JFK tarmac on Thursday evening, April 28, 2016, I walked into what could be called a new page in my life story—a new start. That was my first time on this side of the hemisphere. With little money, zero friends, one close relative and little to hold on to, I found myself leaning on only a thread of asset – my mind. Knowing this, I vowed to keep this God given asset alive and growing with all my soul and might, and what better way to do this than to identify with people of like passion, people who will add to me.…

AP Classes: these words alone are enough to make a high school student cringe. Advanced Proportion (AP) courses, also known by IB, require more obligation, lots of homework, and laborious hours. High school students with an ambition to pursue admission into the most competitive colleges, are likely to take three to five AP courses in order to gain acceptance into these institutions. It takes a strong mental effort to succeed in these classes. A majority of students have become okay with just being ‘average’ and taking normal level classes since Advanced Proportion classes are more time consuming than a normal class and it is inevitable a student may have to weigh out other obligations.…

The guidelines and structure of this class taught me how I can write well even when told what to write about, not just when I am feeling inspired and can write anything I want on a piece of paper. This class took me out of my comfort zone, and expanded my vocabulary, my grammar skills, my research skills, and my formatting skills. I feel far more prepared to take classes that will call upon me to use these various skills in the future. I feel confident in what I’ve learned, and know I will continue to learn more and evolve more as a writer, as I keep practicing the techniques and concepts given to me in this…

At my current school, I don't feel challenged enough, even when taking honors and AP classes. When in these classes, it feels like I'm not learning enough and moving too slowly through the class. In a standard day, I can easily pick up the material being taught and then I'm just sitting and finish the work very quickly and then I help others around…

If you want to distinguish the truth from a lie, you need to use your critical thinking skills. But what exactly is critical thinking? Critical thinking is a calculated thought process that helps you use reasoning and logic and a conclusion about an issue or idea. You analyze it to help you present evidence to support your ideas, rather than accepting your personal reasoning as sufficient proof. Goal I The first goal of the program was to “Apply major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in psychology to prepare for graduate study or careers in which psychological training is relevant”(). Two classes met this goal, Introduction to Psychology (PSY 111) taken at Anne Arundel Community College, and Introduction to Counseling Psychology (PSYC 432) taken at the University of Maryland University College. Introduction to Psychology was the first psychology course I took many years ago. It was the class I took because I had an empty slot on my schedule.…
