so I could have received all A's. Instead, I took more challenging courses and sometimes, I struggled. I believe that I learned and absorbed more out of my high school experience. I have tried to live by the motto that says, "Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game. " To experience…
If I get an “B-” instead of that elusive “A+,” I will be fine. I’m not who I used to be and now understanding slowly is more important to me. My grades will reflect what I actually learn. Striving for perfection, as I was taught as a child, is no longer normal. I wish I could go back in time and tell my teenage self, that mistakes will be made and your life will be hard…
I never thought that I would be sitting on top of a washing machine waiting for my clothes to dry while at the same time, writing a shitty first draft essay. It’s amazing where education can take you. In my first semester of composition, I read “Brainology” by Carol S. Dweck and “The Student Fear Factor” by Rebecca Cox. In Brainology, Dweck explains that there are two different mindsets: a growth mindset and a fixed mindset. A growth mindset is when a person has a mindset that intelligence can learn their mistakes.…
I thought, since it was not easy for me, I was never going to understand it. I was too embarrassed to see a tutor, so I had convinced myself that Algebra was a waste of time. I focused on other subjects. I did what I considered good enough. Meaning, I passed with a C.…
National Honor Society Application Essay For any human to exhibit qualities throughout their lifestyle, one must transcend in certain aspects of their nature. Everyone is born with a different character or personality and not everyone exceeds in all of the same categories, however; I would place myself among the four characteristics of scholarship, leadership, service, and outstanding character as some of the qualities where I excel. I have always been a very studious person, and I take pride in my achievements in the classroom. I was also raised to believe that my best is an A, so when I got my first B it was not something taken lightly. I try to remember that if you put your mind to something, then you can accomplish it, which reminds me of the quote by Mike Farrell, “If you try to do your best there is no failure.”…
Math has always come fairly easily to me, starting when I took Algebra 1 as a seventh grader. I’ve excelled many years, even going into my school’s math and science program where the students are given honors math and science classes from ninth grade through twelfth grade. I’ve always been a step ahead in math so that is how I was able to enroll in calculus last year. Everyone else in my class was going to take BC Calculus so I thought I should too, I could handle it if they could.…
I am currently taking ACA which is a college level class. This class will help me prepare for test, taking notes, and managing my time. So far I have learned how to do each one of these a lot better than before. I feel like when I get in college I will be prepared than I would have been without taking this class.…
I believe that I am an excellent candidate for the Early College program. For me, school is a top priority, and I always strive to be my best. Whenever I set my focus on a task, I will put 100% effort into it until I am satisfied with the result. I am not nervous to talk to adults or teachers, and address any questions I have about the course. To be at college at such a young age demands hard work and dedication, which I am ready to put forth.…
Why do I deserve an A in class? I believe I deserve an A in this class because I might not produce the best quality work but I always put a lot of effort into the assignment. Over the past semester my grade for Q3 was a 80 and for this quarter which is at a 70. On most of the assignments I receive on average a 80%.…
Gym Grades should not impact your grade point average. It is highly unjust for the grades a student receives in physical education to make an impact (more so a deficient one) on their grade point average because it is not fair to the students that do well in all of their other classes besides gym to earn a lowered grade point average because of a class that only seems to be measuring your intelligence off of how competently you can participate in physical activity. There are a number of other reasons why it is not fair, one of them is that some children don’t participate in gym because it makes them feel uncomfortable. It is not fair to those that feel like they physically cannot participate, or legitimately cannot participate to receive a lowered grade even if it is based off of effort. One of my main reasons I believe that a lowered grade point average ensuing from a substandard grade in physical education is…
My grades are not as stellar as it should be since I had to focus on paying for my own living situation which only gave me the choice to work every day right after school. Through all my responsibilities, I lost academic focus and my grades, specifically in sophomore year, suffered. However, I learnt the very important lesson of maintaining balance and I take full responsibility for the grades that I earned early on. I’ve taken those lessons into consideration and have worked harder in my academic pursuits to elevate my grades to a level that I would be proud of. I've learned and I've improved my GPA ever since then.…
When I was young, I was enthusiastic and always passionate about winning. Especially in math, I studied hard for it, because math was the only subject that I was interested and confident about it. During elementary to middle school, I always got A for math test even I did not prepare for it. Also, during freshmen to junior yar, math was still not difficult to me. Therefore, I could maintain my math grade as an A.…
Before the storm of the century, I believe that I had a grade of 86 for Graphic Design. I have done all the work i have been told to do. I completed all of my work to the best in my ability. I respect my teacher and listen to what he has to say. Also i work hard to do all my work in time.…
I hate math so much because I am awful at it. My teacher was a guy who also liked to talk about himself when he wasn’t yelling at everyone to stop yelling, swearing, and fighting. Yeah fighting on the second day of class there was a fist fight I was like where am I.I thought to myself that I was in a ghetto school and I wanted to leave. My other two classes were really long and boring but nothing really bad or exciting…
Due to the recent loss of all the electronic and digital files in the storm of the century. I believe that I should be given a 83 as a grade. I deserve the grade I was given because I worked hard for it. Another reason is that I did everything that was asked of me. I also respected the teacher and listened to everything I was told.…
