Relational maintenance is very important in making relationships last. Lots of marriages end in divorce when there is no relational maintenance. The couples in Why Did I Get Married used relationship maintenance strategies. Even though they had their problems they still went on their retreat to work on their selves.
The movie Why Did I Get Married Too follows four couples who all go on a trip to work on the relationships. The four couples are Shelia and Troy, Patricia and Gavin, Terry and Dianne, and Marcus an Angela. When everyone arrives at the resort that they will be staying at, the men and women separate and talk about what has happened since their last retreat. Gavin brings up a bank account that Patricia has a bank account where she keeps all the money that she has made from her books and says that they should split that down the middle. Gavin ends up winning and taking everything which brings out the worst in Patricia. Patricia comes back to their house and finds Gavin and his friends moving his stuff out and she completely destroy the house. Shelia and Troy Self-disclosure a lot because Shelia always tells Mike that she’s scares that he might leave her because that’s what she had to deal with in her last relationship and eh uses assurance by telling her that she means so much to him and that he will never leave her. Their relationship seems to be strong even when they’re having problems simply because they use relationship maintenance strategies. Angela and Marcus use Relationship talks because they always discuss their concerns. Angelia makes it clear when she doesn’t feel comfortable and they always end up talking their problems out. Terry and Dianne use Relationship talks but their relationship talks are pointless because Dianne is not completely honest.
