Why did I choose the path of Public Relations and Communication Studies?

Why did I choose the path of Public Relations and Communication Studies? Growing up in a disadvantaged community and a developing country like my country Ethiopia, I had always pondered what I would be when I grew up. I saw that many children were affected with different problems and illnesses that were easily preventable. I identified myself with the struggles present in developing countries. Though these issues seem overwhelming, I always believed that if I stay faithful and work towards my goals, that I would make a difference. I was raised to believe education is the only way to fight poverty and achieve my dreams. After high school, I continued a college education with Marketing Management with the hope to become my own boss and leader. Furthermore, the two things I would love to achieve as my career goal is, Public Relations and a charity work. These two businesses work hand in hand. Moreover, I plan to be a member of PRSA (Public Relation Society of America), the world’s largest and foremost organization of public relations professionals. Membership would help extend my network of professional contacts, an excellent professional development and attend conferences to learn from experienced leaders. After gaining enough experience and build a rapport, I eventually hope to start my own PR Communication firm. With the characteristics and values commonly found in PR fields, I naturally portray a character of excellent interpersonal skills, leadership and high level of energy to work with others.
