Why did Horatio not die? In the play Hamlet by Shakespeare loyalty, trust and kindness are all traits that a good friend needs, which every character in this play lacks except Horatio. A friend that will stick by your side through anything. That was what Horatio was to Hamlet. He was the only one of the characters in the play that everyone liked because of his personality. This is Shakespeare’s way of sending a message to everyone who read or watched his play. The only way to make it through life and not get hurt and played is to be loyal, trustworthy and kind. Horatio came all the way from Germany for the funeral of Hamlet's father (Shakespeare, William 1). Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are also supposed to be Hamlet’s close friends but end up spying on him and report back what he is doing to King Claudius. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are not good friends because they lack the traits of a good friend. They do not provide the same type of support and love as Horatio does to Hamlet. Horatio was the first important person in Hamlet’s life to be informed of something so important and life changing. After Hamlets encounter with the ghost and in the longing of his father starts to become a little lunatic. Horatio was the only one that tried to help him instead of question his mental
