We all know about how Germany surrendered to the allies. Everyone knows World War 2, and about how tragic it was. They also remember who fought alongside Germany. Germany surrendered on May 7th, 1945, which was when Hitler committed suicide. That left other Nazis to deal with the surrender. When they saw that they were surrounded, the germans surrendered to the allies.

On May 7th, 1945, According to “Germany Surrenders unconditionally….” the Soviets approached the German capital of Berlin from the east side. The western allies, which was the U.K, France, the U.S, and China, approached the capital from the west. Hitler knew that he was gonna be defeated, so he committed suicide. That left Karl Donitz in charge of carrying out the Nazi’s surrender. The first instrument of the surrender was signed at Reims, which was signed by Japanese representatives. It took place in a red brick schoolhouse, which served as the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force, (SHAEF). But at the time the surrender of Germany was under Allies control, German forces still roamed the Western Netherlands. General Alfred Jodl, represented the German High Command, signed the unconditional surrender of both east and west forces, in Reims, France. Though at first he wanted to limit the terms of the German surrender to only the east. But General Dwight Eisenhower demanded complete surrender of all the Nazi forces, from east and west. If the demand was not met, then Eisenhower would seal off the Western front. Which left the soldiers with the Soviet forces. Jodl radioed Donitz, with the terms, forcing him to sign “Germany Surrenders….” It took effect the very next day.
