This is important because it further shows that there are many people who think that Hamlet is still young and immature and he has a lot to learn and Laertes and Polonius do not want Ophelia to go through this growing stage with him or get hurt in anyway.
Polonius is a comical character in the play as he serves as a comical relief in the tragedy by serving as a father who is trying to keep things in order all the while looking like a fool. “POLONIUS: Or—not to crack the wind of the poor phrase,/ Running it thus—you’ll tender me a fool” (I.iii.109-110). This is important because the play is no longer serious and dark as it now has some scenes of humor to relieve from the tragic characteristics.
