Why Did Buck Survive In The Call Of The Wild

Survival of the Fittest is not only a great theme, but a theme that occurs throughout the whole book! Buck has faced many horrible things to learn about that only the fittest survive in the wild. In this essay I will be going over some examples of what Buck faced and what he had to do to survive. He had to fight for dominance but also to be the lead sled dog. Buck is very fit to be the lead sled dog, but he has a challenger just as strong as he. He also learned that if you don't steal food from others you won't survive on the food given to you. Buck also learned a lesson by a sweet, loving dog named Curly wasn't fit for pulling sleds.

In the beginning of The Call of the Wild Buck was a gentle dog and didn't know of anything about the wild, but he was taught the law of club and fang. The law stated that attack is possible at any moment, and always be alert among the "savages." Buck eventually became very dominating

Thirty or forty other huskies approach, and Curly lunges at her assailant. She tumbles off her feet, and the other dogs rush in, trampling her. The men come and fight off the dogs with clubs and an ax." (spark notes.com) Eventually Curly dies minutes later and Buck realized that to survive in this new world, he will have to make sure he doesn't go down in a fight. This also started Buck's growing hatred for Spitz.

As you can tell, the theme Survival of the fittest is reoccurring, and is easy to find. Buck has been taught many lessons and things about surviving in his new life when Curly was killed, when he had to fight for his own food, and when he killed his rival Spitz. Another way he learned naturally is when his ancestors instincts came to him, which had guided him to survival as
