Should Brutus Join the Conspiracy and Kill Caesar? Is Brutus right in his decision to join the conspiracy? Are Brutus’s reasons full of made up thoughts to rationalize what he is about to do? Or is there validity to what our honorable friend says? In (Act II, scene i, lines 10-34) Brutus displays his internal conflict, to kill, or not to kill his friend, Caesar. Brutus was right to kill Caesar, as he would have scorned those who loved him and left them all behind. He would have been a negative asset to Rome. So why was Brutus right to brutally stab his friend, Caesar, to death? There is an unbelievably humongous amount of evidence to support his decision. For example, Brutus mentions in (Act II, scene i, lines 21-26), that like most men who attain power, Caesar will most likely turn his back and let the sheer amount of power he has get the better of him. Caesar is also incredibly ambitious, as shown by his killing of Pompey, his own son in law, because he stood in Caesar’s quest for more power. After all, Caesar and Brutus are friends, and there is a possibility that Caesar could be a good king. It can also be argued that Brutus’s ancestors driving tyranny out of Rome is not a good argument, and that a person’s past does not define who they are. Unfortunately all of these arguments can be debunked. It is not that Brutus does not care for Caesar, but he loves Rome more and his moral compass is of more value to him than a friendship. In terms of Caesar being a good king, there is more than enough material that displays his personality. With the way he treats even those closest to him, it is clear all he cares for is his own advancements and power. Now for Brutus and his ancestors.
