Dale Doback Analysis

Improved Essays
First and foremost it is important to understand who Dale Doback and Brennan Huff are. They are unemployed, nearly 40 years old, and live at their parents’ house who have just gotten married, making them step brothers. They lack even the simplest of adult communication skills and spend a good portion of the movie, at least the first half, just insulting one another with cruel pranks and causing mayhem around the house. As far as job experience goes Brenan manages a fantasy sports league and Dale believes that his father will pass the family business to him which in fact is not a family business at all because his father is a medical doctor. Once it gets to the point of going into job interviews they are good friends so they decide to go together. …show more content…
The first interview is for a janitorial job and the men are dressed in tuxedos. Dale hides behind Brenan for the first half then pokes his head out. The woman conducting the interview has an annoyed look on her face. She asks “yeah I am sorry, who is this gentleman sitting behind you” with an annoyed tone (McKay & Apatow, 2008, Scene 7). In the next interview Dale and Brenan decide to ask the man conducting the interview some questions. He agrees that this can be a useful strategy. They begin with an inappropriate question, “How much money do you make each year before taxes?” (McKay & Apatow, 2008, Scene 7). He begins to squirm around in his seat and tells them he is not comfortable answering that kind of question. They continue to ask inappropriate questions. After a few more of the questions, the interviewer sits straight up in his chair and tells them they are done. The final interview begins with the interviewer stating “You also listed Jesus Christ your lord and savior as a source” (McKay & Apatow, 2008, Scene 7). He says this while smiling awkwardly. Dale and Brenan state that they would like to tell him what they are not good at, and proceed to list every condition needed for the job they are applying for. The interviewer gives them sort of a blank stare and tells them those are all skills that they

The Mind at Work, written by Mike Rose is a story about day-to-day jobs that people partake in for a living, his main purpose of this story was to make people aware of the need to take notice of forms of intelligence that have not been tested through IQ tests and bring various things together like how the brain and hand can not be separated, they work dynamically. In this essay, I will go over the key points that I thought Rose wanted his readers to understand also, what I disagree with and agree with and also how the hand and brain work together. I found that the first couple of chapters in the book went over the key points rather than the last couple of chapters, Rose explains that all work has some sort of skill required to do the job…

In “Why This? Why Anything?” Derek Parfit provides his demonstration of the fallibility of providing causal answers for the creation of the universe. In light of the fallibility of causal answers, Parfit seeks to incorporate his response to the creation of the universe with the use of non-causal answers which explains something’s existence in virtue of its properties, rather than attempting to follow an infinite chain of reasoning. While Parfit adequately demonstrates an inability to conform our reasoning to causal interactions for the creation and nature of the universe, his understanding of non-causal answers for the nature of the universe provides little insight into the questions he proposes and provides merely a factual understanding, rather than an explanatory one.…

    My Cousin Vinny Analysis

I have always heard good things about the film “My Cousin Vinny”, but never got around to watching it. The film follows the experiences of two young men mistaken for murderers in fictional Beechum County, Alabama. When the boys, Bill Gambini (Ralph Macchio) and Stan Rothenstein (Mitchell Whitfield), discover that they weren’t being held for theft of a tuna can, but instead for murder, they anxiously call their families for help. The family employs Bill’s cousin, Vinny (Joe Peschi), a New York lawyer who passed his bar examination six weeks earlier (after six tries), to defend them. It is not only Vinny's first time in Alabama (which is quite clear from his entrance), but it is also his first time inside a courtroom as a practicing attorney.…
