Why Daddy?

Daddy, you left me and mommy-
When I was little more than three-
Why Daddy, why? Was I not pretty? Was mommy mean?
Daddy I am now a teen,

Father, I am now an adult-
Heading to college, still believing it my fault!
Why Father, why?! Am I not smart?!
Is there no room in your heart?
Father, now Grandfather, I'm now a mom-
Into my life,
My first born son.

As you get older you tend to reflect more on your life and get your priorities together. You tend to realize who and what is important, the people who mean the most to you and the ones you can’t live without. Who would those significant individuals be for you? For most people it would be their parents. In the poems “My Father’s Song” by Simon J. Ortiz, and “My Mother” by Ellen Bryant Voigt, both writers express their emotion towards a parent.…

When we are young and commit mistakes, it is easy to blame on parents, teachers, or siblings in order to mentally make ourselves feel better about our own fault. In college, I will not be able to blame anybody for missing registration to classes, or missing an important deadline. Taking full responsibility for my actions will give me a hard time in my college career, since I have never been completely by myself. However, without a doubt, acting responsibly is the quality that gives meaning to our lives and allows us to develop personality, establish profound relationships, and get an advantage in the labor market. Additionally, the only way to overcome the fear of taking responsibility of myself is to start realizing that things will change…

Plenty of children go through life everyday with hostility in their household from their own parents. A Lot of people say it comes from, how each individual parent was raised during their own childhood. Whether that’s poverty, feeling in charge, or even just wanting to see your children succeed in life. I looked at two short stories today. One was by an author named Lucille Clifton called “ Forgiving My Father”, and the second one was called “ My Fathers, in Heaven, is Reading Out Loud” by Li-Young Lee.…

I sat in my car gazing through the window as the lightning violently struck through the air. My heart was drowning in the rain as I looked at the broken picture in front of me. I have no dad, at least not one present at the moment. I see a mom at her wits end trying, but I know it's all pretend, an illusion that doesn’t have an ending. Looking at our house, our doll house, with all its broken figurines I can see the lights are on…

In today’s society is normal to either forget a tradition or lose something close to you. But it is possible for it to affect you in the long run. For example, last year I used to go to church to learn about the word of God. But as I started to pass through the year I gradually stopped going to church because I began to have second thoughts about my religion. As time passed I still believed their was a higher power that made the earth and etc., but what I noticed is I started to view the world and other religions equally.…

As a woman, I was constantly told I was stuck here in Afghanistan and I had no other options. From the day I was born, I felt as if I was being walked all over, ignored, and abused. I wasn't being abused physically, but beyond mentally. Growing up, I knew the day would come where I would be stuck with a sad excuse for a husband, in fact one I didn't even get to chose. I was definitely trying to pretend that it wasn’t going to happen, but my father and brothers always reminded me of the plans for my future as it was inevitable.…

The Trip to the Grocery Store I haven’t seen him in weeks or maybe even months, I thought as I glared across the small distance between where I was standing and my dad’s car. With my One Direction CD clutched in my hands, I started to close the distance by walking towards his car. I opened the door and slipped in, and then he started to drive to the grocery store.
