As in an article “The Internship Problem” by Rita Koganzon, the author says that: “Unpaid internships are unregulated, often illegal - and ubiquitous”. It is true that unpaid internships in America are one of the most popular problems which students would like to talk about, because in the other countries of the world employers pay for internships. Although the salary for internships is not that much as an official employee, students find it as a motivation for them besides the precious experience they get. Especially for international students in American colleges, they feel effortless and stressful while doing the internship. They do not get to be paid, and still have to do their best in the company and at school at the same time. They might think they have to do the internship because they are told to do it, and because it is listed in the program evaluation. If they do not do it, they cannot graduate college. They say that without the English classes the school won’t know for sure that students are able to take undergraduate programs, and cutting off time in college years will make students do not have enough knowledge for their job after graduation. Most of international students studied English for a long time before they come to the United States for higher education. They have to take the English program because they miss a few points in their TOEFL test, which is a test for colleges to evaluate English skills of students before they get accepted. The range between the college’s requirement and the students is not too much. If it is a big difference, admission office of colleges will reject the student immediately. With this point of view the English program is necessary to support students in learning, but it is not so much important for students to spend a whole semester for just studying grammar. Students go to colleges for studying about specialized skills that they need for their jobs, not for studying English. If they want study English, they can go to an English center for help because the cost will be less than what they have to pay in colleges. Having the student study English programs and undergraduate program at the same time in their freshmen year will help them save a lot of time in the future for internships.
