College…. The ultimate freedom from mom and dad, especially when they can be kind of strict about how you behave and what you believe in. High School graduates all over the country leave home to go to college and gain a higher education, but could they be losing their religion because of it? In the article, “Why College Students Are Losing Their Religion,” by Conor Friedersdorf he expresses that it is not the college’s fault, but rather the weak hold that religion has on its people. I agree with Friedersdorf because four years cannot take away eighteen years of your parents’ teachings and concepts, also because if your foundation in your religion is strong then you will continue to grow and prosper in those beliefs. There tends to be a lot of temptations with college and they only get worse as each new generation is introduced. My foundation is not the strongest, but I believe that it is sort of strong and that I do not fall easily to the temptations of college life. In many ways, religion is a way to keep people accountable for their actions because no matter what religion you honor there are still certain ways you must act to maintain that religion without any consequences. Again, all of this falls back to how you were raised and taught as a child.
