Enrolling in college is a big step for many high school students. Last October, only 65.9 percent of people who graduated from high school enrolled in a college (Norris par. 1). Going to college opens the doors for financial enhancement, self-improvement and the ability to make connections. Even though it is not necessary to attend college to make money, students should pursue a post-secondary education.
Pursuing a post-secondary education is a way to increase one's knowledge and experience. Students are able to have experiences that cannot be taken away from them. As stated by Judith Shapiro, “You want the inside of your head to be an interesting place to spend the rest of your life” (Delbanco 146). This statement proves that students looking to attend college should absorb as much information and skills as they are able to and invest in getting as much knowledge so that later on in life you can always be ready to be challenged. Going to college gives students an advantage over a lot of recent graduates with only high school diplomas. In the article “Not All College Majors Are Created Equal,” Michelle Singletary argues, “ The unemployment rate for people with only a high school diploma is 22.9 percent” (Singletary 255). This is very shocking because in the same year this data was published, the unemployment rate for college graduates was only 9.4 percent (Wething, Sabadish and Shierholz par. 4). Making it clear to see that the opportunities college students are provided with to obtain a job after college are much more promising than just having a high school
