Why College Is Important To Me

I am Edgar Linares and I am a sophomore at Rio Hondo College. I started Rio Hondo College in the Fall of 2013. I was not sure, if college was for me. I was not prepared for college because in High school I was not willing to challenge myself. So I decide to join the Army because, I wanted to experience something new. I was instantly plunge into world that was completely different from what I experience. I never pushed myself and was never demanded in my civilian life to push myself. I was surprised and excited to see what I was able to accomplish. I knew the Army life was not for me. I came back to school in the Summer of 2014. I knew that in life Education is important to succeed. I took classes in History, because I was always interested …show more content…
I am timid person, but I am proving to everyone and myself that anything is possible, if you have a right state of mind. I want to show those who said that I am stupid or place misery on me that I can get AA and transfer to Berkeley that I did it.
I have joined clubs, so I can be a better student and citizen.I have joined La Puente Program in order to better communicate with my peers. The program has taught me a lot about how to present and understand others outside of my social group. I have recently joined Student Leadership Institute in order to gain experience in dealing with problems that I have not encountered in my daily life. I am applying for this scholarship,because I want to focus on my studies. If I get this scholarship, I shall use the money to pay for my classes.I would have the ability of getting all the classes that I need instead of picking a few classes a semester. My family would not have to support me, so I can be financially responsible. I want to transfer and graduate from a University, so I can help my family pay the bills and pay them back for what they have done for me. I want my family to see, what I am able to accomplish with the right resource given to me.I know that others are applying for this, but I have proven to myself that I can accomplish the goals that are put in front of me. I have failed many times, but I always got back up. That is why I am qualified for this
