A common debate that has been going on for a lifetime is that chivalry is dead. Chivalry is “the medieval knightly system with its religious, moral, and social code.” (Dictionary.com) In other words, doing kind or generous things, usually men being courteous to women. Before, men would do kind things for women with nothing in return just because it was the right thing to do. In modern times, people believe things like this do not exist anymore. I believe chivalry is not dead, it is just hard to find. In the article, “Chivalry Is Dead, and You Killed It”, written by Kira Sabin from Huffington Post, believes nowadays chivalry is dead. “Men do not know what role they play, thus leaving them baffled. They do not know whether they open doors or not? Plan the date? Offer to pay? Take your hand? Go in for the kiss at the end of the date?” by the end of the article Sabin believes women should take the lead instead of waiting for men to be chivalrous. I believe this is not true. Although, it is hard to find men who are chivalrous in today’s world, it is possible. To find these men though, you just have to look in the right places. I conducted an interview with several guys and they all gave me about the same general answers. “As a man do you open doors for women? (car doors, store doors, etc)” “Yes.” “Have you ever cat called out to a woman?” “No.” “ Would you rather catcall a woman from across the street, or go over to compliment her, then walk away?” “Go over to her.” “ Do you believe it is important to make a woman/women feel safe and comfortable?” “Yes, highly important.” “Would you make a woman you 're all, making her you princess or queen?” “Yes.” “Do you believe chivalry is dead?” “ No it has just become really rare to come across.” I was surprised by the answers I was receiving because I did not know guys really felt this way. Most women like when men do generous acts for them because like Kira Sabin said in her article, “it has been that way for as long as we can remember, men lead the relationship.”(Chivalry Is Dead, and You Killed It) Even though this has not been scientifically proven, men take the lead: in nature, male lions or any other male animal that protects their family. However, there are still some people that like to go steady and be old fashioned and romantic. Phil Grech, author of the article, “Does chivalry still exist?”, Agrees. In his article he states, “But what if chivalry hasn’t died; it has just changed?” (Does chivalry still exist?) Grech continues on giving examples of why he believe chivalry has just changed. Personally, I agree that it has changed. In my own personal relationships with guys, even just guy friends, they hold doors for me, be kind, show they have manners and are exceptional men that have been raised right. Maybe all the responsibility doesn’t have to go all on men. Chivalry could be men and women both being kind to one another, because in the end everyone wants to be loved.
