Why Eastern Parents are Superior Looking at kids today, it is becoming more and more apparent that there are various parenting methods that children are exposed to. Eastern parenting style utilizes an authoritarian approach that develops a controlling and power assertive relationship with the child. This concerns Western parents, as they prefer a permissive style of parenting in order to support their child. Western parents may have a hard time believing that Eastern parenting can be more beneficial. What Western parents don’t realize is that an Eastern style of parenting is the best way to parent. In Amy Chua’s article “Why Chinese Mothers are Superior”, she notes, “Chinese parents understand… practice practice practice… start to excel at something… gets praise, admiration… builds confidence…” Chinese parents, Easterners, teach their children persistence and determination at a young age, even if they may fight it. The authoritarian mindset Eastern parents have forces their children to adopt great values that have a clear benefit in the future. One way is to teach their children to keep practicing and practicing until they have mastered the objective. Not only will the child have improved, but the reward of recognition a boosted sense of accomplishment helps encourage this habit to stay with them forever.
