Why Children Shouldn T Have Phones

Decent Essays
I would say 9 to 10 years old is too young. Because at that those ages a child does not need a smartphone. I got my first phone when I was twelve when I started to engage in sports so when practice or a game was almost over I would call my parents to let them know, but that was about it. Now, my younger cousins have phones and they copy everything that they see online or believe what they see online which is not a good thing. So that is why I believe children at that age shouldn't have a phone. They also become addicted to their phones that they forget about the important things like homework. Overall, I think that smartphones are a big distraction for young children.

The central idea of the article “Should children get to have cellphones in elementary school?,” written by Donna St. George discusses the highs and lows of having a cellphone in Elementary school. In fact, it is stated how "It's definitely a trend we're seeing at younger levels – being allowed to bring cellphones on campus," (St. George, paragraph 6). Although this might not be a good thing it is a big trend and we do see cellphones everywhere, for younger kids and even some older ones it could be a temptation for cellphones to be on campus. Another detail shown is "To expect a child to turn it off – and not touch it when it's in his backpack – is a lot to ask for a 7-year-old," (St. George, paragraph 10). In addition to the temptation, children…

Kidshelpphone.ca promotes support for children and teens twenty-hour hours a day, seven days a week. There are two main areas of focus on this website and since there are many aspects to discover I will mainly concentration on teenagers rather than kids. I believe examining topics related to teens for this assignment will be more interesting because the themes are more relevant to my own subject position. As Trisha argues in (*TedTalk), teenagers are less likely to speak about their problems to a parent or trusted adult so they keep it bottled up inside. Kids Help Phone puts an end to young people having no place to go by offering an anonymous space where they can speak about various problems and acquire the support they need.…

Students should not be aloud to have their phone out in class or at school. If they have their phone out it could cause them to not listen, and it will just make a big distraction. It is ok if kids are just listening to music and are able to listen to the directions the teachers gives, but most can’t do that because they are distracted. They should put their phone away and listen when the teacher is talking, or just leave it at home so they can concentrate, and when they do have there phone out they can text there parents to come and get them because “they don’t feel good”. When the teacher is talking and a student has their phone out they should put it away so they know what to do.…

To sum up kids should have their own cell phone, but they have to be at a certain age and responsible enough to have one. Nevertheless, one negative point I can think of with having a cell phone is that you get addicted to using it all the time, despite this you as a parent could set alarms or timers on your children´s smartphone so they have to give it to you after the alarm or timer goes off. if you are worried that your kids could visit a website that isn’t suited for them you could easily block the…
