“According to Shot@Life, a United Nations Foundation partner organization, vaccines save 2.5 million children from preventable diseases every year” (Pg. 4). Although there are a few cons to getting your children vaccinated, the pros outweigh the cons with flying colors. Almost all of the disadvantages, such as vaccines causing autism, ADD, and IBS, have been scientifically proven to have no correlation. All children should be required to have vaccinations to be able to attend public schools or daycares. A vaccine is a substance that is injected into a person’s body to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against one or several diseases. The substance acts as an antigen without inducing the disease. Vaccines are important so that individuals can have a herd immunity, which means if everyone gets vaccinated the chances of the disease breaking out is little to none. Some believe that children build a better immunity to certain diseases or illnesses if they aren’t vaccinated. Making sure you are up to date on your vaccinations not only helps you, but the people around you. Elderly and small children rely on the people surrounding them to get vaccinated, if a wide majority of the people surrounding them get vaccinated that would minimize the chances of others contracting the disease and passing it off to elderly or small children that can’t get the vaccination due to related health issues or their age.
