Why Candy Is good for You to a Limit Over 1.9 billion pounds of candy are sold every halloween; however 1.2 billion pounds are eaten on the night of halloween (Chegg P, 2012). Everyday several hundreds of people claim that they eat candy because it tastes good and it makes them feel good. What they do not realize is it only takes a little while to get addicted to it. One out of four people that say they like candy are actually addicted to it because the sugar is more addictive than coffee and drugs (Chegg P, 2012). People in america assume that candy is unhealthy because it is mostly made out of sugar. Is it true that it is unhealthy, makes people stressed, and even slows down your metabolism? Studies show many things about candy, for example dark chocolate is actually good for you if you do not eat too much. It has antioxidants that help fight bad molecules and helps prevent heart disease. Dark chocolate can also help lift your mood and protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Chocolate covered raisins also provides your body with antioxidants and fiber.(Beres D, n.d) Although Chocolate is good for you it does not mean that you should eat it all the time. Kelly McGonigal, Ph. D claims that by eating hard candy you can have more energy. She says when people are tired they tend to grab for a protein bar but a small piece of candy will raise your blood sugar enough to get the similar effect. Candy such as cotton candy may seem like nothing but a sugary snack, but it helps restore blood vessels.(Beres D, n.d) If you have a bad digestive system no need to worry just grab a peppermint out of your pocket. It helps get rid of gas, bloating, and even nausea.(Booth S, 2013) Eating candy to a limit could actually improve your health. Candy comes with many advantages as well as disadvantages. Overall if you eat a decent amount of candy it should not damage your health but actually benefit it. Candy is the number one snack food in the United States.
