Nobody’s perfect. Perfection is a utopian quality that is far from realistic as it means “without fault or flawless.” Therefore, stating that nobody’s perfect is just another way of rewording the phrase everybody has their flaws. In this essay, I will show that Derek Parfit is wrong to think that without perfectionism we cannot avoid the repugnant conclusion. My first step in defending this thesis will be to review Parfit’s argument on the repugnant conclusion and the way perfectionism helps us avoid it. I will then try to undermine his view by showing it supports implausible claims. For example, the premise of Parfit’s argument is that perfectionism does provide a full means of avoiding the repugnant conclusion. However, what perfectionism values is the total sum of happiness in a population.…

The concept of perfection is something that cannot be reached or can be achieved because if you have nothing to redeem then you have nothing to gain. Just as a caterpillar is to a butterfly, redemption is to success. Although they may seem like opposites, they actually are very much alike because you need one to have the other. One must recognize a fault that they have suffered and learn from it to better one’s self and eventually teach it to others. The idea of redemption through failure because perfection will not help one’s worth is evident in Sir Gawain and The Green Knight by Simon Armitage and in modern day society.…

However, I must confess that I do not consider perfection to be an impossibility, or even a possibility, but rather the actuality and reality of the infinite universe in which we live. I believe that Life is perfect, just the way it is, and that it is getting better every day. Perfection does not mean that things could not be better, or more abundant, or greater in some way. Perfection describes that state of existence to which nothing can be added, or subtracted; a whole and complete state of being that increases and improves by a greater expression of what it already is. Perfection defines the infinite, the one Life in which we live, move and have our being.…
