Why Become A Veterinarian

On the first day of second grade, each student in my class was asked to fill out a simple questionnaire. Being an eager student, I started writing down my favorite color, favorite food, and the names of my best friends. The last question asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. Thinking back to the stethoscope and stuffed animals I carried around on career day, I shot my hand up into the air to ask for the proper spelling of the word ‘veterinarian’.
Because my aim in life has never wavered, I have taken the necessary steps toward achieving my goal. I was presented with the opportunity to accompany my grandfather to veterinary clinics to test a Welch Allyn animal blood pressure prototype for three years. My days off school and summers were spent gathering data and becoming familiar with the details of the test unit. I began to feel at ease while running the computer system, writing down blood pressure and heart rate measurements, and calming animals at the same time. For three years I was able to immerse myself in the chaotic, inspiring atmosphere of a veterinary clinic. I am grateful for those experiences because they solidified my determination to obtain a job in which I am truly passionate about. This past summer, I had the opportunity to work at an exotic

I think that the research processes, especially those regarding the reduction of habitat disturbance and disease transmission, seem particularly rewarding. The world needs more educated people who are willing to help protect and preserve the most beautiful aspects of our earth. I would love to spend my time doing research to benefit the environment or building relationships with the public in order to explain the value of conservation and reducing pollution.
