Why Be An Optometrist Job

Why would someone want to be an Optometrist? This is an important question to ask yourself when you are deciding on a career. I have done a lot of research and have discovered many reasons why I should be an Optometrist. There are many benefits to this job and things to discuss about this field. However, I believe this is the best job for me for many reasons.

One reason I am interested in Optometry is because this job helps people. With every career survey taken, I have been told that I am a people person. My personality is suited to dealing with people and will always put them first. During my interview, Dr.White and Dr.Kirn told me that their favorite part of being an Optometrist is getting to know patients and their families. However, they also reported that their least favorite part was managing their business and dealing with insurance. This topic may be a negative for me also because I would not like having to sit at a desk and stare at a computer screen for hours. As I look further into this topic, the good really outweighs that bad in this situation.

Dr.Kirn recommends to study hard, especially math and sciences. This works out well for me because that was my main goal, to study hard and get good grades. Also, my favorite subjects are math and science, which would really help me out in that field. However to be an optometrist would take about 8 years of schooling, 4 years of college and 4 years of optometry school. Most would change their mind right at that point because they don’t want to put the time and effort into this career. Therefore this would drive me to do just as my parents did before me and work as hard as I can to get the best schooling I can.
