Why Be A Retreat Leader Essay

Why do you want to be a retreat leader?
I would like to help people to have a true understanding of their faith. Many people are unsure of themselves, if they even want to be Catholic. I want to go help them with any questions that they might have. I also have an experience to share that I will highlight below (#8).

2. What qualities do you bring to this role?/3. Have you had any other other experiences with leadership either at church, your school or elsewhere?

As I stated earlier I was agnostic for some time. I fell into depression at one point, from my family putting my Dad’s daughter’s girlfriend above me. It was severe depression. I ended up hurting myself by sleep deprivation to numb any feelings or thoughts on my life. I honestly wanted to die at one point. After a while I had an experience I can only describe as God talking to me, telling me to live. I started to go to Mass more and try to be the best Catholic I can be to thank him. I deeply love the faith and all of the history behind it. I carry a rosary with me at all times and also pray on it. I am not embarrassed by being a Catholic and support the church entirely.

I feel like with my experiences (above is just the short version) I would be helpful to a lot of people as someone to share my story. I am a natural leader so I feel like I could help make this run much more smoothly and such. I love my faith and I loved the retreat last year. Giving back, and helping to guide other people, would simply mean the world to me.

In Dreaming in Cuban by Cristina Garcia there are characters of different ages and different views, so there is always intergenerational conflicts emerging. The characters were raised in different places and at different times and so their experiences and view are different. In some ways, I can relate to some of the conflicts present, but can be the complete opposite as well. One type of difference between generations is their stance on religion. For example, throughout the novel, the reader can see that Jorge del Pino had a weak relationship with his daughter Felicia after their slight religious differences.…

As I stepped through the doors at my first PFO retreat, I immediately felt inadequate. I was surrounded by talented, compassionate, articulate teens, but I just felt like a normal 15 year old. Throughout the retreat, people would write comments of gratitude about others on sticky notes and leave them on a board in the front of the room.…
