Why Basketball Is Important To Me Essay

Improved Essays
As a kid my parents wanted to me to be involved and find a hobby I truly enjoyed. So I played several sports such as softball, basketball, and cheerleading. At the time I enjoyed them all but wasn’t super into just one of them, I played to be with my friends and have fun. After a while I realized basketball was my sport, maybe because at the time I was a foot taller than most of the other girls, but basketball has stuck with me ever since. As I got older and played basketball at the high school level I realized I loved the sport so much because it is always challenging me. As a basketball player the goal is to continuously grow with your personal skills and your ability to work as a team. At practice I am constantly learning new skills and conquering moves I have been working on for weeks. As a basketball player once I have successfully learned a play or move that I have been working on, I immediately start learning a new one. In Basketball I am constantly learning and growing. Basketball has taught me to never limit myself and keep pushing to be a better me.

Basketball has taught me to be flexible and have good time management. Having practice before school every day this year could have been a struggle for someone like me who likes to sleep in as long as possible, but I realized I have to make the most of the time I get to be able to practice the sport I love. Basketball consumes all my time during the season. Up early to make it to 6:00 am practice, staying after school to lift weights that we don’t have time to do before school, traveling to games, and taking those long bus rides. I wouldn’t trade those early mornings and late nights for anything. Basketball may leave me without time to sleep, eat, or hang out with friends, but I have such a passion for basketball, I would never give it up. Basketball is my life, my team is my family and the gym is my

We are expected to be full time students while also being full time athletes. Morning practices start at 6 A.M., and don’t end until 7:50 at times, leaving very little time to get ready for that 8 A.M. class. Then there is practice after classes, and sometime between then and bedtime we have to find time to do homework. On top of everything else, we are required to have six hours of study hall a week; that, along with keeping our GPA above a 3.2, is mandatory. Now don’t get me wrong...playing sports in college is a huge privilege, and I love having the title of “Student Athlete;” but it’s also the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, and our season hasn’t even started yet!…
