Why Attend A Service Academy Essay

Why do people want to attend a service academy? Is it because of a title, or honor, or does it have to do with the idea to prove themselves? These are all questions that race through the head of people who hear about people wanting to attend a service academy. Not only is it a competitive field to apply and get accepted, but if accepted to a service academy a person will be academically, physically, and mentally challenged. If I was asked four years ago, I would have told a person that I didn’t even know about a service academy. However, now that I have had time to ponder the idea of applying to a service academy for the better part of two years, I have realized that attending the US Air Force Academy is a great honor. I believe that the academy will provide me the opportunity of graduating from a secondary school with a degree while at the same time becoming a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force. After a military career, I would like to eventually become either a business manager or math teacher at a secondary level campus. Not only can I accomplish my Bachelor’s degree at the Air Force Academy, but I can complete this degree at a well respected campus.

Secondly, the Air Force Academy is one of several main ways to receive a commission as an officer into the AIr Force; Those three ways being through the Reserve Officer Training Corps, the Air Force Academy, or Officer Training School.
