Many toys are made specifically for either a boy or a girl. People think that boys shouldn’t play with dolls or play houses. Others believe that it is okay for a boy to play with a doll. What do you think? There are a lot of toys and a lot of games that children can play with. Board Games such as Monopoly and Candy Land aren’t made specifically for a boy or a girl. Board Games are for families and/or friends to play with. Why aren’t board games made for a specific gender?
If you were to go into a store and try to find a toy for a girl, you will most likely be looking for a doll or some kind of play-set. If you were looking for a toy for a boy you might be looking for toy cars or action figures. Most parents will buy barbies for a girl, but why cant boys play with babies if the ken doll is a male Barbie. Could it be the color of the packaging that the barbies are sold in? When toy cars are being advertised boys are used to represent the toy cars. Can the advertisement of toys be the reason that people associate Barbies with girls and action figures with boys? If you ask a toddler who barbies are for, chances are they might say girls. Same thing applies with toy cars and action figures. How would toddlers know that barbies are for girls? Is it the color of the boxes they are sold in, or is it the advertisements? In my opinion I think it’s the advertisements that tell people whether toys are made for a specific gender or
