Why Are You Trying So Hard To Fit In Essay

“Why are you trying so hard to fit in when you were born to stand out?”
Our characteristics and traits are what make changes and what drives society; so, in a world where we are all the same, modern society, as we know it would collapse. Ian Wallace’s quote depicts the belief that being your self is important and that one should ever try to become someone else. Instead, we should embrace our uniqueness. This statement is true, especially in the world we currently live in. Ask any teenager what their view is on fitting in. Many will say that they want to "fit in", "stay by the cool kids", or just "follow everyone else." The majority of teens who say that they want to stand out still mirror the actions of others. Ask kids why they hang out where they do. A typical statement is "that’s where all my friends hang out", or "that it is a popular place." Why do kids wear what they wear? A common answer is, "that the clothes are in style," or "that the celebrities wear them." Many actions of teenagers are driven by a desperate desire to fit in.

If Michael Dell and Steve Jobs had the same personality, traits, and behaviors, it is I can guarantee that neither one of them would have brainstormed nor created the world changing technology that they made. Individuality is what leads and provides inspiration for innovation, and is an extremely important quality that keeps our society

Many of Adorno’s ideas can be recognized throughout The Merchants of Cool’s exploration of youth and popular culture. As addressed by Adorno, standardization, identification, and pseudo-individualization all take form in the growing teenage culture. In the documentary The Merchants of Cool, you can see how standardization is seen throughout the film. It shows how teens are very vulnerable in their quest for what’s considered “cool” in popular culture.…

Society can be looked at as a jigsaw puzzle; the separate puzzle pieces represent humans as single individuals, our personal experiences, and attributes. Each piece of the puzzle is a crucial part of it, which can be parallel to how every member of society can serve an important role and has the potential to make positive impacts. A missing or impaired piece of the puzzle can impact the look of the puzzle as a whole, which emphasizes the fact that individuals could also negatively affect society. When everyone begins to take on different roles and contribute to their society, it will pave way for advancement and innovation. Aldous Huxley in his work Brave New World develops the idea that is difficult for a single individual to be impactful…

“Your character will be what you yourself choose to make it” is a quote by British naturalist and politician, John Lubbock. I strongly agree with his quote for several reasons. I believe Lubbock’s meaning behind his quote is that no person can allow society to determine the mental characteristics he or she contains. In all seven billion people in the world, not a single one of them carries the same characteristics as any other person. If society is in control of how we act then it is impossible for us to be the way we are meant to be.…

A person is a unique being with various characteristics that makes up oneself, such as handwriting, interests, beliefs, and aspirations. These built-in components are like fingerprints, with no one’s prints being identical to another. If we did not have differences, society would mirror a dystopic society, like the way Big Brother watches over Winston Smith in George Orwell’s, Nineteen Eighty-Four. For example, everyone were duplicates of each other, having the same rationale, beliefs, as well as thoughts (Orwell, 1949). Thus, it is essential that people have their differences, no matter how subtle nor radical, in order to keep harmony within the democratic society we employ today.…
