Why Are You Interested In Working In This Field

Why are you interested in working in this/these field(s)? Health care access and treatment of patients are incredibly important in everyday life, as well as tied to so many aspects of social, political, and economic discussion, which is one thing that has captured my interest. The opportunity to see how health care is run in a different country, as well as to see first-hand the daily life of a doctor, would be incredibly impactful for my future interests. Through school, I have gained knowledge on the fundamental basics of medicine, in biology, chemistry, and neuroscience classes. However, practicing medicine is not a theoretical job and I know that nothing can compare to being in the environment myself. Although I am passionate about medicine, I personally believe I should expose myself to the real grit doctors face so I that my reasons for choosing this field are not influenced by external factors, but rather an internal desire for this work. However, I have some basic understanding from my biology, chemistry, anatomy, and neuroscience courses. I believe coming in to this internship with even just this basic knowledge will help me follow the doctor’s work easier than had I come in with no knowledge at all. Additionally, as my mother is a doctor in America, I have been surrounded by the health care industry for the majority of my life, so I am comfortable in hospital settings and around patients. Being comfortable in this setting is a step, as it is important to stay calm around people who may be going through the toughest part of their life.
