Sergeant West, is a police officer who works for the Thatcher Police Department, has interrogated many people and has been to many trials. My first question dealt with his knowledge of anyone who had been convicted and sentenced to death. He replied simply that he did not know of anyone who had been sentenced to death, because of his job many would assume that he has seen at least one person get the death penalty. My next question for Sergeant West was “Are you for or against the death penalty?” He replied saying, “Yes, I am in favor of the death penalty, only if they’re a hundred percent sure that that person did it.” Most people have the same answer as Sergeant West. To sentence someone to death, the judge has to be completely positive that the person charged with the crime is indeed the criminal. To maintain a death row inmate, the taxpayers are paying $90,000 more per year than a prisoner in the general population.
