Video Games are bad for children mentally and physically. In this paper I will be arguing how violent video games are bad for children and how they negatively affect people's brain, body, and actions. It is approximated that nearly 90% of children today play video games. 90% of these games include violent content. Violent video games affect the mind and body in a negative way. It has been proven that an addiction to video games can be linked with obesity.A study done shows that most Gamers while gaming eat some type of snack or drink some type of unhealthy drink while playing video games, and playing video games for an unhealthy amount of time. this leads to obesity because some people are spending so much time playing video games each …show more content…
According to the article Mass killers in US all found to be addicted to playing violent video games, two of the most common cases of mass murder/school shootings, the columbine massacre and the sandy hook shooting have been connected to violent video games ts the the cause. The article states that all three of the boys that were involved in these two shooting were addicted to video games and that was thought to be that this was some of the cause of these events. One of the boys involved in a shooting was quoted as saying"Doom distorted my version of reality: "I did not understand that if I pull out a gun and shoot you. . . you're not getting back up. You shoot a guy in 'Doom,' and he gets back up. You have got to shoot the things in 'Doom' eight or nine times before it dies." Also we see the same with Elliot Rodger, killed seven young men and women including himself. He was hooked on violent video games from a young age from his own admission, hiding himself in "the World of Warcraft," a place where he felt comfortable and secure.This is significant because these were a few of the worst events in american history and they can be traced back to violent video games and how they effected their mind and blurred their reality of these mass …show more content…
One study conducted On a group of students was that students played violent video games and non violent video games over a long period of time. after the study it was set up that the students were asked if someone negatively commented on them if they would react in a violent matter most students playing the violent video games reacted aggressively. well most of the students playing the nonviolent video games reacted in a non-violent manner. http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/25/health/video-games-and-violence/ This study proves that violent video games can sometimes have a violent effect on students actions / reactions. this was on a small scale so it is hard to imagine what it would be like if the stakes were much higher or they were stressed out and how the students may react to something as little as I mean comment 2 as big as bullying. While some argue that videogames can be good for you because it improves muscle movement in your hands and eyes, improving attention length, and Can improve your memory. there have also been studies that have shown that videogames can hurt your eyes because of the screen. also there have been studies that show no proof between videogames and improving your attention and attentive listening
