The Founding Fathers of America worked together in an effort to write the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. These actions are what established America as a free country ruled as a democracy. All of the men who were involved in the founding of America are considered Founding Fathers, but there are a few that stand out a bit more than the others. John Adams, Alexander Hamilton, and George Washington all influenced the future of America forever by being brave enough to express their political visions and to fight for the country’s freedom. Hamilton met with other delegates to help improve the then weak Articles of Confederation. At this event, he expressed his views on the importance of revenue on the government, which opened up the doors that later led him to become America’s first secretary of the treasury. Hamilton left behind a much stronger and secure U.S. economy, when he stepped down from this position, which helped further strengthen the U.S. government. Hamilton did attend the Constitutional Convention, but he did not have a huge part in writing it. He did, however, greatly influence its ratification, by writing 51 of the 85 essays in The Federalist Papers. At the time, Washington was known to be a natural leader and a good, honest man. He first established himself as an important figure in the American Revolution when he was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army. Washington helped free America from the British by leading the army to victory during the American Revolution, contributing to the writings of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, and helping to amend the Articles of Confederation. But it was after his election as the first president of the United States of America, that Washington really helped pave the way for our country. During his presidency, Washington helped set the precedent for every president following him in numerous ways. He established the cabinet in the executive branch by appointing the Secretary of State and Secretary of Treasury, as these bodies were not outlined in the Constitution. He also supported innovative fiscal concepts, such as the Bank of America and national debt. He introduced a policy of neutrality, set the precedent of a two-term limit, established relations with Great Britain with Jay’s Treaty, and established the tradition of a Presidential Farewell Address.
