I think sports are a big part in school, because students in 8th grade look forward to high school because of the sport they play. Sports shape a lot of kids especially with their grades, in any grade level you need passing grades to be able to play. With bad grades you were not eligible to play. It’s even more important in high school. You absolutely need good grades to be able to play a sport. When I was in 8th grade I wanted to play soccer so I joined soccer I wasn’t really good with my grades I always had Ds and Fs but when I joined soccer my coach told If I didn’t bring my grades up I was not going to be able to join, well I started to think to myself if I really want to play I have to bring my grades up. So I did within two weeks I brought my grades up and when we had sign up for soccer I was accepted it really helped me with my grades. I wish I would’ve continued playing sports when I started freshman year in high school but I was held back by something and I couldn’t join. In my high school we were always pumped up for football games and soccer games it was always fun to go and cheer them on especially on rivalry games. A couple years later I was in highschool, I stopped playing football and soccer, and started to really just worry about basketball and lacrosse. Once tryouts came out for lacrosse I immediately showed up and tried out. Coach told me that I made varsity, I was pumped until I found out I would barely play. I probably got about 45 minutes at the end of the season, but I got a varsity letter so it worked out good I guess.…

I truly felt we were a small family. In our away games since we didn’t get too much of an audience to cheer us up, we acted as one. We celebrated with high fives and hugs when we scored and congratulated one another for the effort displayed on the field. Being in a sport or just enjoying a game with your peers, it could create a strong bond among one another. Sports unite people from different backgrounds.…

Soccer was something I invested 11 years of my life into, and quitting abruptly put my parents into a frenzy. To my parents this was just another stupid decision, but to me it was the start of my independence. From this day on I began to make choices because I personally wanted to. I stopped caring what my parents thought of me and promised myself to do more for myself. I began excelling in school, not because of the pressure my parents put on me to succeed, but because I knew I could do better if I applied myself.…

In your opinion, do you think that you should be required to play a sport in order to graduate high school? Personally, I don't think you should have to. If you are making someone play by force, that individual is not going to give the coach or the team 100% out on the field or on the court. What if a person is mentally or physically disabled? You can't exactly make them play.…

Why does sport matter? The moment of elation when I scored a winning basket, qualified for sectionals, or crossed the finish line of the hardest race was the reason I played sports. However, those moments would not have been gratifying in the least bit had it not been for the hours of hard work and perseverance I fueled into my training. Any coach or athlete will say, “Playing sports builds character,” but what constitutes character?…

“Sports...is seriously underestimated by educators, who see sports as competing with academic development rather than a route to it.” As I described, in my experience sports in my school did compete with academic development as did a variety of other social factors. I would suggest that if sports are to be a part of a well rounded education, then athletics should be optional to all students, not just the select few. It is no wonder introductory education would be socially divided, and students marginalized when at its core, the structure is flawed. Graff asserts that “the sports world was more compelling than school because it was more intellectual than school, not less.”…

I have researched this topic online and came across that all sources came to the conclusion that sports negatively affects your grades but i didn’t believe this was true. I conducted my interviews with multiple athletes and nonathletes to find out their personal experiences, and if they agree with the school policy. Out of the 5 interviews i conducted 4 of them agree that sports positively affects their grades because it makes them concentrate on being on the team and doing that you have to have a high grade to stay on the team.…

The adrenaline, hearing the crowd cheering, scoring touchdowns; it a rush that goes through my veins and I cannot get enough of it. I would play because I enjoyed it, but I had no idea how the simple game of football would change my life for the better. Being a student athlete is a wonderful thing in high school, despite a lot of people only acknowledge the athlete part and not the student part. I believe that academics come first and if a high school student wants to be an athlete, then getting good grades should be a requirement. It should be mandatory for teachers and coaches to check the grades of student athletes weekly to determine whether students are performing academically well or not. The students that aren’t doing well should be dismissed from any further games and practices until their grades improve. It is important that student athletes maintain good grades because the work that they put into their school performance carries with them through life, putting too much of an emphasis…
