1. Why are some risks acceptable? As stated in the supplemental article, some form of risk will always be present and unavoidable. As stated in the article, natural disasters and hardware failure are unavoidable and therefore acceptable. It must be understood that risk can be mitigated but not eliminated. Another example that might be used is driving your car. Your car may break down or you may get into an accident, there is no way of knowing, this is considered a form of acceptable risk. To answer the question, some risks are acceptable because they are unavoidable.

In what ways are some vulnerabilities unavoidable? Provide specific examples to support your response. Some vulnerabilities are unavoidable because they have not been planned for, they have never happened before, or they are simply beyond human control. Vulnerabilities that have not been planned for are usually the result of inexperience on the part of the management team. This can occur when only managers are brought into the process of developing immediate action plans to deal with risk. Vulnerabilities that have never happened before are rare but can still occur. Vulnerabilities that are beyond human control involve things like the weather and natural disasters. Specific examples of vulnerabilities that haven’t been planned for could be anything, its just something that was overlooked when developing the plan. These might be the lack of payroll software for a new business. If pay stubs are not issued with paychecks, the company is vulnerable to federal prosecution because pay stubs are a regulatory obligation. Vulnerabilities that have never happened before might include all of the organizations records are destroyed by a vehicle crashing into your building. This one is much harder to describe because it hasn’t happened before. Vulnerabilities that are beyond human control are things like the weather, seismic events, meteor strikes, solar flares, and many
