According to Dr. Seralini from France there are long term effects of the chemicals they use on GMO’s. Dr. Seralini has done two years of research on Monsanto’s round up corn. Round up corn is one GMO that uses the pesticides and herbicides called round up. Dr. Seralini used rats to conduct his research. The outcome of his research concluded females are prone to mammary tumors and their pituitary glands have been effected. In males there have been increased estrogen levels as well as liver and kidney damage. Rats by the time they reach 1 years old developed tumors and by the time they reached the end of their life span has 3 mammary tumors. Therefore, women develop tumors in their 30-40 and yet there is no evidence of why. But this is most likely the caused by the chemical used to produce these GMO’s. So according to this research it is not that GMO’s itself that are harmful to us; But it has been developed to be true that the pesticides and herbicides are seeping into the food that make GMO’s harmful. After Dr. Seralini released his per-review publications, several scientists that worked for Monsanto one of the leading seed distributors, where in disgust. Monsanto wanted proof of Dr. Seralini’s raw data. Dr. Seralini proposed he would release his data if they released there’s but they refused. If Monsanto would not release the data to the public, what are they trying to hide about GMO’s. This can be …show more content…
This subject is still under research. Many Scientist believe the toxic chemicals used to harm certain pest can harm pest like bees and butterflies, therefore birds also get harmed from eating these insects. The harming of pollinators can offset the ecosystem. Many pests become resistant to these pesticides, so new pesticides have to be regenerated often. Today there are 500 species of insects that are resistant to pesticides. GMO’s are made to be resistant to pesticides and herbicides, because of their resistance this could eventually make genetically modified plants an invasive species if in a natural farming environment. Farmers that grow their plants near a GM crop can and have been pollinated by the other crop. This will eventually cause loss of genetic diversity. “Over the past 100 years 93% of crop varieties have vanished” due to GMO’s. One other way genetically modified plants can harm the environment is through the soil because of the toxicity of the chemicals used to increase the yield of these plants. Soil nutrition is decreasing rapidly. After researching the subject of environment health, the answer is over time yes the environment is being harmed. Including organic famers around the
