“Why are cells so small?” The concept of this investigation is to examine which method of diffusion is the best explanation to why cells are small. The transpiration of cells nutrients apparat in different ways; one way is Osmosis. Osmosis is the diffusion of water. Active transport requires ATP to transport nutrients and then there is diffusion, which is the process of moving nutrients from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. The first explanation studied is that cells with a larger surface area to volume ratio would be the best effective way of diffusing nutrients. The second explanation inspected is that it is the shape and not the surface area to volume ratio that determines the most effective way of diffusing nutrients.
The size of the cell is important because it affects the cells ability to move nutrients. Also, the size helps the cell effectively the absorption and expulsion material. Needed for this investigation, the group cut out three cubes and three

To reduce error, the group put the biggest cell in a bicker of its own and made sure the other cells did not touch each other during the investigation. After C1 was completely saturated, which took 24 minutes and 30 seconds the group then took all six cells out of the biker of vinegar and measured just how much each cell absorbs using a ruler. Each cube absorbed about an inch of vinegar. After getting all of the measurements the group then realized that a better method would have been to soak all of the cells and recorded how long each cell took to completely saturate. Using this method would have required less
