Why Are Brookline Parker Traffic Laws Important

Improved Essays
What did you learn this week? Was it useful? How? If not, why not? This week, we reviewed some common traffic laws. We discussed parking laws in some more detail, and I learned some rules that I didn’t know existed. For instance, I always wondered: While Brookline law says that you can only park in one spot for two hours, couldn’t you just move the car into another spot right by the original spot? Turns out, the rule applies to an entire street; if you are parked on one street for two hours, you must move it to another street to abide by the law. In general, this seems like a valid rule. However, this detail is not publicly known and is not stated on any of the traffic signs addressing the two hour parking limit. This is very useful information to know, given that I had up to now always simply moved my car from one spot on the same street to another. While it is now known to me, it should be publicized more as it is useful information to all Brookline parkers who want to avoid getting ticketed. …show more content…

At one point, the police officer in the back admitted to getting some parking tickets himself throughout Brookline, so it’s nice to know that parking laws apply to everyone - everywhere. Police officers are often viewed as immune from the consequences of not abiding by the law - even little rules like parking regulations - but when it comes down to it, if a car is parked somewhere it shouldn’t be parked, it will be ticketed, or even worse, towed. The evening made me more aware of the specific traffic violations to keep an eye out for that may have more details to them than we are originally taught, so I am now able to use this new information towards becoming a safer and more experienced

So after I watched the “Lives Affected Video” I started to think about how dangerous drunk and drinking drivers really are. As I started to think some more I realized that I think there are more drunk and drinking drivers than we think and that we are lucky that more people haven’t gotten hurt. There are impacts that drunk drivers have on innocent people and that they are in danger just because a drunk man/woman decided to get on the road ways and drive him/herself home. If an accident did occur then not only would the victim’s lives and in some cases their loved ones lives be impacted by the drunk driver but the drunk driver’s life would have been impacted by the crash.…

Deputy Chief Michael Beckman of the Long Beach Police spoke with us about his son’s suicide. The talk was both heart wrenching and informative and I give him a lot of credit to be able to speak with anyone about such a personal issue. He started his talk stating we were all brothers and sisters in law enforcement and he uses this time as therapy for him in dealing with the loss of his son.…

In class a lot is learned about the different rankings, necessary education, and the court systems but talking to an officer gives you personal insight on what he has to go through in everyday life. You can hear how actually dangerous their jobs can be rather than just reading it.
