Why Are Athletes Overpaid

Improved Essays
Are athletes truly overpaid? Think about your favorite player in whichever sport you truly enjoy. How much money do you think they make each season? An athlete in the NBA makes an average 5 million a year, whereas an NFL player would make about 2-3 million dollars a year. But when you add up the prices that their association makes a year, their owners make a year, or even a game, there would be a difference. Athletes are not overpaid because businesses related to sports get paid much more than those athletes, athletes are more open to the public and are on the spotlight much more than others, and athletics are very popular, which brings more money to the overall idea of sports.
Businesses like Nike, Under Armour, and Adidas sponsor teams and players to advertise their products to bring more money to their business. That by itself, brings a lot of money to them and that player, but that business already makes way more money than that athlete or team alone even if the money that was made for that partnership was split between both the player and that business. Even businesses who have nothing to do with athletics get paid so much more than those athletes or people surrounding that organization.

Athletes go through interviews, new articles, and just random rumors more than they really want to. They’re even put into more dangerous activities on the daily. Athletic injuries are more likely to happen more than others, and these injuries could ruin their whole career if they’re not careful. Treating these injuries are pretty expensive as well, and since most teams would like a fast recovery, the cost to pay those athletes would rise. These athletes are paid to play a sport that they’re truly passionate about, but also risk being hurt more than they want to be. Most people wouldn’t choose to have that job at an average pay

One reason i feel they are not overpaid is they had earned to be there they had earned to be playing on that field. Also the better you are the more the teams are going to want to pay for you to be on their team. I also know that athletes had injuries that can cost up to $70,000. Like Paul George when he snapped his leg is basketball that costed approximately $65,000 dollars for surgery. One example is Tom Brady he is a 5 time super bowl champ quarterback.…

I am personally a collegiate athlete and knows what an athlete goes through. Players shouldn’t get paid millions of dollars like professional athletes, because why would players go on to try and play professionally. On the contrary they should deserve some type of revenue whether it's for clothes shopping, take someone out on a date, gas money, etc. For example that’s the same thing as me asking my friend to do something for me and he does all the work while I sit back and relax.…

For example, MLB (Major League Baseball) players can make anywhere from $500,000 per season to upwards of $30,000,000 per season. How much each individual player makes depends on their performance (and high-level performers result in more entertainment for fans.) A player that hits forty homeruns in a season is more entertaining to watch than one who may hit zero home runs in a season, and in every instance the player that hits forty homeruns makes more money than anyone with none. No matter how much a player is making on their contract, they earn every bit of it by performing well and contributing to their league/business. This is just one of many examples that you could take away from any of the other major sports as well, such as NBA (National Basketball Association,) NFL (National Football League,) and NHL (National Hockey…
