Why Are Athletes Overpaid

Decent Essays
Are athletes overpaid? I believe an athlete is paid for how good and talented he/she is. I believe only the best athletes who are at their prime are the ones who are paid the most, and every other average athlete make enough for a good living and with certain perks all professional athletes have. In sports usually the best athletes are the ones in commercials, tv shows, getting sponsorship deals, etc. , average athletes are not usually know and have small fan bases. The athletes who are in there best moment are the ones who get high payments, a perfect example was in the 2016/2017 season in the english premier league ( soccer league in england) was when low seeded team and newly first division promoted team leicester city, won the league for

Imagine you are a hardworking doctor or lawyer, and you aren't getting paid the amount you should be. Other people like you who are bettering our community aren't getting paid the amount they should be, and all of your tax money is going towards paying for athletic stadiums. Doctors, teachers, government employees, police officers, firefighters, and lawyers should be receiving the money that athletes receive. Professional athletes provide entertainment for society, but I believe they receive an unreasonable salary. Overall, athletes are overpaid because all they are doing is playing a game to entertain while other more important professions are making much less, they don't contribute to society, there are better places to use the money, and the money received could be used to pay for more useful causes that would benefit our society.…

One reason i feel they are not overpaid is they had earned to be there they had earned to be playing on that field. Also the better you are the more the teams are going to want to pay for you to be on their team. I also know that athletes had injuries that can cost up to $70,000. Like Paul George when he snapped his leg is basketball that costed approximately $65,000 dollars for surgery. One example is Tom Brady he is a 5 time super bowl champ quarterback.…

How much money does a hard-working, very rewarding person such as a doctor, firefighter, someone who risks their life to fight for freedom, or even the president of the United States of America make? Only a fraction of what Cam Newton, quarterback of the Carolina Panthers, makes. Sports involves at least two competitive opponents that compete against each other for entertainment purposes. Millions of people come to watch these events every year, and even one-third of the United States watched the Super Bowl last year. But does this mean that athletes should be paid the astronomical amount that they are?…

Although most people think athletes should make as much money as they do, others think they shouldn't make so much. Athletes get paid millions and even sometimes billions of dollars per game. I'm going to use my favorite player, Lebron James. Lebron gets paid 30,963,450 dollars a year. Lebron is the top paid player in the NBA.…

The average salary of a professional NBA player is about 5.15 million dollars. When one takes this massive amount of dough and compares it to the average salary of a middle class citizen, which ranges from 42,000 dollars to 125,000 dollars, one would notice that the NBA player makes substantially more than the average citizen. Professional athletes should have smaller salaries because jobs that save lives get payed way less, ---, and the money they are getting could be used to help the community. When looking at the paychecks of athletes and the paychecks of people in the military or people who are doctors, you would realize, the athlete gets more money. This is completely and utterly absurd.…

It’s the beginning of the college football season, and with a new year of sports, the annual debate of whether these highly talented athletes should be paid rises along with it. Starting with reasons of why they should be paid, they make thousands of dollars for their school, and uplift it in a way, bringing it popularity and a good reputation yet they don't get remunerated for their hard work. It is also disputed that with the number of grueling hours of work put into practice it makes nearly equivalent to a full-time job but without pay. On the opposing side, people disagree, reasoning that the athletes do get rewarded considering the free 250,000+ dollar education for free, popularity and fame, and a much higher chance of getting into pro football for being in an amateur league. The real question is not if they should be rewarded for their work, but if they're rewarded fairly for it.…

The world of men’s college athletics is intense; full of testosterone infused, ultra-competitive athletes and corrupt coaches all vying for a spot in the nation’s biggest championships. So what does this amount to? A friendly bunch of folks all participating in games for the fun of it? While this might be the case for few, the majority of college athletics is much more complex than that.
