Animals should not be bred and kept in captivity because animals live shorter lives. Some think that animals in captivity will live shorter lives because they do not have any predators, but in reality we are their biggest predator by keeping them caged up. Research has showed that animals live a shorter life than animals in the wild by about half their life span (Mott). Elephants in zoos live to the age of around 19 while in the wild the elephants live to around age 42 wich is half as long then in captivity.
