Why an Online Education In Sabri G. Bebawi’s article, “Definition of Online Education as Distance Learning”, an Online Education is defined as; the creation and proliferation of the personal computer, the globalization of ideas, and other human acts, and the use of technology in exchanging ideas and providing access to more people. After referencing five articles on Online Education/Distance Learning, Being able to earn a degree at a college, out-of-state or abroad, allows many people the opportunity they never had, or was just not able to afford too. From my experience on taking online classes while in the military, I have been able to take them while deployed overseas in support for our country. Students can ask instructors questions with confidence through the online course software (Howard 2013). By allowing everyone to have a voice, shared ideas grow diverse as well. Lectures and other materials are electronically sent to the student who will then read them, prepare to take quizzes, and complete assignments. For those working full time, this will save time, simplify studying, and make scheduling events in their lives much easier (OEDB.org). The importance of any educational institution is learning the material. Distance learning allows students to review the lesson many times, allowing the slower students to keep up with the faster students. The third subject was cost-effectiveness. Students may be able to save money by not having to physically attend classes. Online courses may help individuals cut down or eliminate costs of transportation, babysitting, and other expenses incurred by attending classes in a traditional setting (WorldWideLearn.com). Most of the material needed for an online course is provided or can easily be downloaded, cutting student's costs of buying books. Companies can save on the costs of hiring training personnel, training materials or classroom related expenses. Organizations can reduce money spent on the traveling and hotel expenses required to send their staff to structured classroom training. Employees will spend less time away from their jobs, increasing their productivity (Howard 2013).
