Why Action Are More Powerful Than Words

Improved Essays
To me action are more powerful than words because you can talk about doing something but you won't be doing anything. The only reason that you won't be doing anything is because you are afraid of the outcome, you are afraid of what would happen to you. Look at Martin Luther King Jr for example.

Martin Luther King jr had a famous speech called “I have a Dream.” He went up in front of people and told him that he had a dream, but he made the action and had the courage to go up and say it. But if he didn't make that action of going up, then he would of never have had said the speech and anything that he had cause would never have been here today. Another good example is the walk “SELMA.” On March 25,1965 Martin Luther King jr led thousands

During his time as a teen and the british army was stopping them from moving into a place in north america. Nobody was willing to do something or even tell them something because what was the point of the “French and Indian War” if they weren't even going to be able to move into it after words. But then george washington rounded up a group of “Minute Men” which were people who would be willing to fight in a instance if they had to. Well then he took them up to the mountain to discuss about moving but the british army didn't like hearing that so they killed all of his men because of course “Minute Men” didn't know how to fight but the british army did. On the way down he felt ashamed because he got all of his men killed and they didn't get what they wanted. But when he got down everyone was praising him and cheering him on. It was because he at least made a action and tried to do something about it because nobody else wanted to try doing something, but if he didn't do that then nobody would of cheered for him and if no one did that then he would of never became general of the american army and we might of never have had won the American

He goes at great lengths with the sources to demonstrate their characteristics and opinions. For instance, he mentions that, “Washington is said to have wept as he watched the tragedy [of the defeat at Fort Washington] unfold from across the river, and though this seems unlikely, given his imperturbability, he surely wept within his soul. He had faced ruin before, but never like this” (McCullough, 2005, p. 244). This quote alone tells a lot about Washington’s character. It shows that Washington is an exceptionally calm man on the outside, but still observes his faults and the horrors of war with great solemnity.…

The colonies struggled to defeat the british forces during the revolutionary war. Then the french joined, giving the colonies an advantage over the british. How is it that the colonies had an excellent general but lose most battles; they were ill equipped and amateurs at war. Overall the essays that we have read this semester have been good. There are a few essays in particular that I think benefited me the most was “The Time to Act I Now” written by Al Gore, “Just Walk on By” written by Brent Staples, and the “Letter from Birmingham Jail” written by Martin Luther King. These essays have benefited me in a numerous amount of ways in which I am going to explain how their writing styles helped me become a better writer. Staples helped me a lot in which he taught me to explain my reasoning fully so that the audience know exactly what I am talking about. Another thing that Staples taught me was to explain the setting of the story in full detail so the readers can visualize what’s actually happening in the story this…
